WHAT ARE THE ODD?
The 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to be achieved(SDGs) by 2030. Here, it is MDG 2 to eradicate hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture. It calls for the establishment of sustainable and resilient food production systems and agricultural practices.
Indeed, one of the targets of this SDG is to ensure by 2030 the sustainability of food production systems and implement resilient agricultural practices that increase productivity and production, contribute to the preservation of ecosystems, strengthen the capacity to adapt to climate change, extreme weather events, drought, floods and other disasters, and progressively improve land and soil quality
Research, agricultural education and support for farmers therefore play a key role in achieving the objectives set.
Agriculture also contributes to the fight against poverty(MDG1 and MDG10) by providing jobs and income, especially to vulnerable populations.
Today, 14.3% of French farms are involved in an agroecological approach.
THREE APPROACHES TO SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
1. Agricultural productivity
In order to feed 9 billion people by 2050, it is necessary to develop agricultural productivity and encourage precision farming through various sensors, satellites and software. This is how vertical agriculture becomes crucial. Finally, it is also necessary to optimize the cold chain.
2. Food waste
It is impossible to talk about sustainable agriculture without addressing the subject of food waste, which still amounts to more than 10 million tons of food thrown away each year in France, so it must be reduced at all stages of the food chain, for this the awareness stage is essential. But it is also necessary to improve the logistics and the dynamic pricing system. Finally, it is important to find sustainable packaging alternatives, as well as circular solutions.
3. Diets
In order to achieve the goals of SDG 2, it is important to shift from animal protein-based diets to diets that are healthier for humans and more sustainable for the planet
